Jhon Devilla’s Story

HI, my is Jhon Devilla, I am 31 years old with stage 5 Kidney Disease (CKD). As a result of my kidney biopsy, filtration of my kidney has only 10% function due to having hypertension. Living my life in my 20s, I was too busy and distracted to go to my daily checkups until one day in April 2023 I started feeling really fatigued and constantly nauseous. I didn’t feel like myself for 2 months. When I finally went to my doctor for a checkup and got bloodwork, my blood count was at 4 according to my blood test and doctor so my doctor sent me to the ER, and next thing you know I was in the MICU getting a blood transfusion because turns out I had anemia. With Anemia they had to find out what caused it so I went in for a kidney biopsy and that’s when we found out I had CKD. I was in the MICU for 2 weeks. So many things were going on and all I could feel was disappointment and questioning myself How did I get here? since I’ve always been making the best of myself and staying active in life. Having CKD definitely made an impact on my life, negative and positive. I’ve been on dialysis 3 times a week since May 2023 and it has been very challenging mentally and emotionally but I still try to make the best of it because I have to put myself first.
